Bavaria: My top 3 hotel experiences

I have been living in Munich for almost a year now and had the opportunity to visit the beautiful region of Bavaria. So today, I wanted to share with you my favorite hotel experiences I had in this area. I hope that it will take you on a journey out of this dark period that we are currently living.

Warning: Be aware that it is forbidden to wear a bathing suit in saunas!

#3: Klosterhof

Alpine hideaway and Spa

We spent a night in Klosterhof after a long hiking day in the Berchtesgaden national park, close to the Austrian border.

It felt so good to relax after this hard day! The spa area is well equipped with two saunas (bio and Finnish), two swimming-pools (one outdoor and one indoor), and a treatment center.

The food is not left out either. At the GenussArt, we ate a nice multi-course dinner prepared with local ingredients, and on the morning we could enjoy the view while having a big breakfast.

#2: Das Tegernsee

Das Tegernsee is the first hotel I experimented in Bavaria and I was not disappointed (it was a tight choice for #1)! The hotel is located 50 kilometers away from Munich, in the city of Tegernsee (accessible via public transportation) and surrounded by breathtaking landscape.

What you need to know about this city is that the beauty of its location attracts celebrities from all over the world. Don’t be surprised if you spot one of the Bayern Munich football player!

On your arrival you will be welcomed like royalty, with a nice glass of Prosecco and a piece of Bavarian cake. During your stay you can hike or cycle on numerous trails departing directly from the hotel, but also admire the overwhelming view of the lake and the Alps from the spa area. It is also possible to experiment the sauna ceremony in the panoramic sauna: fruity or spicy herbs are ceremonially poured into the hot sauna (80-90°C) by a sauna master. Don’t be afraid to sweat!

#2: Das Graseck

My mountain hideaway

If you are looking for a bubble of relaxation in the middle of nature and mountains, then I strongly recommend going to Das Graseck!

The first thing that makes Das Graseck so magical is its access. Indeed, the hotel is nestled at an altitude of 900 meters. When you arrive you then have no other choice than taking the Graseckbahn, considered to be the world’s first fully automatic cabin ropeway. The view on the surrounding mountains from the cabin is absolutely beautiful. The small cable car passes also over the Partnach Gorge which connects the local mountain area with the Wamberg. In winter, the gorge is breathtaking as it is recovered with stalactites and stalagmites.

The hotel is located near the famous ski resort Garmisch-Partenkirchen and has a marvelous wellness area (treatments, panoramic sauna and swimming-pool). It is also part of Bavarian history: the first expedition to the Zugspitze was undertaken from there in 1851. You can then chose to go on a hike for a day on one of the numerous hike tracks or just spend your day in the pool looking at the hikers 😉

Finally, the hotel has been able to bring out the beauty of the mountain views that you can appreciate from the wellness area to the restaurants.
